The Shelby family was a family that was in financial debt to a man named Haley. Haley negotiated with the Shelby family until they decided on a mutual agreement. The agreement was set forth that Tom and Harry were to be sold. This was a shock to Tom who had always been very loyal and was promised his freedom by the Shelby household. Elisa devastated by the trade made took little Harry and began her own adventure in the middle of the night. She was on her way to Canada to eventually find the freedom and happiness she had always hoped for. Her husband George, who was also a slave and had ran away to find freedom early in the week and Elisa hoped to reunite her family as well. Yet Tom being loyal and faithful to his owner stayed and was sold off to a very nice family after he saved their little girl from nearly drowning in the river. The little girl’s father keeps Tom for two years and once again Tom is promised his freedom by yet another slaveholder. Tom is eventually denied his freedom due to the untimely death of his owner, who didn’t live to fulfill his promise to Tom. Tom was then sold to a horrible tyrant. He was forced to undergo very difficult labor tasks while the slave women were being raped. On the other hand, Elisa and Harry are safe in a Quaker home and reunite with George. Their family then as a whole continued their trip to Canada. They eventually encounter the final steps of their trip and all make it safe to Canada, with the help of a man that was wounded and then healed by the Quakers, Tom Loker. Meanwhile, Uncle Tom meets a woman named Cassy, she was very cold and bitter do to the loss of her child when she was very young. Cassy eventually escapes the plantation in which Legree owns. Legree becomes very angry with Tom when he refuses to tell where she has gone. Tom is severely beaten. He soon dies from his wounds. Cassy then reunites with her daughter Elisa and her family George and Harry. The family ends up in Liberia which is just across the Atlantic Ocean.
